Killarney Provincial Park is a national treasure.  This particular morning I got up early and paddled across George Lake to a spot I had staked out, and I witnessed this beautiful soft, misty sunrise.  The clouds seemed to frame the sun and the composition came together without difficulty.  After experiences like this I always think to myself that I should get up early more often. Still working on that.

A slow November day and the promise of fog brought me to the Rockwood Conservation area for an afternoon, yielding a couple of my still-favourite images.  But my favourites change rather regularly, depending on which day you ask me.

I took this photo 20 steps from the front door of my place at the time.  It reminds me that I do not have to travel to be in an interesting place full of beauty.

This is the world premier of the colour version of this photo.  I shot this image back in the film days, envisioning it as a black and white image.  That seemed to have worked out- I have sold many prints of this image- but I also did a colour photo, on slide film, as an afterthought.  There was no reason not to.  The film was processed and sat on the shelf until now.  Drum roll, please…..

I had a slow day one November, so I grabbed my camera and tripod, and had a blast. Something about fog that brings out a sense of mystery in a subject.

Mountains can create such interesting cloud formations. I had stopped a few times that day as I traversed Maine and New Hampshire, to try to create a photograph  with these unique clouds, that expressed something that I felt about the place. The moment finally presented itself late in the day, when the sun was low and the light made the subject take on that magical quality. I guess that’s why we photographers call it ‘the magic hour’.
