This area reminds me of The Group of Seven paintings, as I have heard many times from people when they see my work. It makes me grateful to live in a province with clear water, and open spaces that give us places to think, feel and dream.
I love my black and white landscapes, but sometimes you just can’t argue with colour, like this sunrise.
I photograph, even when it’s not my contracted work. And often it’s the land I return to when I want my photographs to matter. The northern landscape has always attracted me- the wide open space, the clean air and water, the smell of the pines. It just IS. We are a part of nature, and it’s a part of us. Countless scientific studies have shown that a connection with nature creates a better capacity to live well, although that Truth has been abundantly clear to thinkers and dreamers for as long as we can imagine. This is one of several images I have here taken on long-gone Kodak Infrared film. It always gave you a look and feel to an image that was very different from traditional materials, and often times unexpected. I still have a roll in my freezer.

I spent close to a week in Killarney the town, and the Provincial Park, shooting Google Street View virtual tours for a few businesses, then spending a few additional days in the park to relax and revisit some favourite locations. It was the week leading into Thanksgiving and the weather was wonderful- still very summery- swimming was still enjoyable. I had photographed this very shoreline from a canoe a few years prior, but only with a point-and-shoot camera, and I had it in my mind to revisit the spot armed with a more capable outfit. The conditions were perfect, the […]
A large format film image.
I love Killarney Provincial Park, and you will find many images taken in or near Killarney Park here. The geometry of the waterfall inspired me to take an abstract approach, with the slow shutter speed adding to the effect.
