Retiring School Principal

High Schools all have their “wall of fame” of portraits of past Principals, and this retiring Principal still had great hair, so clearly he needed a photo that did him justice.  I recall him saying he’d rather be jumping into his canoe, than pose for a formal portrait, so we did something less formal, at the school rather than in studio, as most of the previous portraits had been.  I set up a number of flash units, positioned them carefully to incorporate the school logo that was in the form of a stained-glass piece at the entrance, where he would always stand to greet the eager students as they entered every morning. He didn’t want to smile too large, and wanted his suit unbuttoned and more relaxed.  No problem- it’s good to have clients that have a vision for what they want.  He was a pleasure to work with, and is probably in his canoe right now, if you are reading this in the summer months, and I can’t blame him!
