A striking portrait can be done almost anywhere (sort-of). But you have an infinite set of choices that have to be made, from when to shoot, where to place your subject, where you are going to place yourself, what camera settings to use (“good cameras” don’t know what to do, btw). And sometimes, you find yourself lying on your stomach trying to direct your subject, making sure you are not lying on discarded bubble gum.
