This photo was taken for a book about Guelph and it’s efforts to build a city that works better. It was to illustrate the installation of LED streetlights throughout most of the city. This final photo, IMHO, was worth possibly getting run over a few times, and having a pleasant chat with a Police officer, who seemed to have a lesser appreciation for a neat photograph than I did. But I got my shot.

This area reminds me of The Group of Seven paintings, as I have heard many times from people when they see my work. It makes me grateful to live in a province with clear water, and open spaces that give us places to think, feel and dream.

I spent a few days of R&R on the Bruce Trail, and it yielded a clearer mind, a refreshed attitude, a blister on one heel, the knowledge that I need to lessen the weight of my pack, and this photo.  The photo will remain long after all the other lessons and experiences fade.  It was one those positive creative experiences where the photo seemed to almost find me, where the moment and feeling translated into an image without too much struggle.  And that is rare, and it’s the inexplicable part of what it is to take photos that hopefully matter.
